FREELANCE journalist Chester Makana collapsed during the ANC Limpopo elective conference yesterday, two days after he was hit with a brick, allegedly by the party's youth league members.

Makana, who is based in Polokwane, collapsed as journalists interviewed newly elected provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane at the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus.

Makana was assaulted on Saturday when he went to investigate allegations of duplicate voting tags being printed at a photocopying shop in Polokwane shortly before delegates picked their top five leaders.

He was hit on the head as two men stormed out of the printers as he was taking pictures.

"They came out and asked why I was taking pictures. Then they started attacking me. It was bad," said Makana.

Makana, who was taken to hospital by paramedics, said the two men grabbed his camera and destroyed his memory card before chasing him. He then went to a police station to open a case.
