No-one raises their child to be a murderer' - Distraught mom

Five young men are in court, accused of setting alight two young girls in a suspected Satanic ritual

The trial of five young men accused of setting alight two young girls in a suspected Satanic ritual was postponed in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Magistrate Lucas van der Schyff put off the matter to November 16 for a formal bail application.

Four men appeared on October 25 and were held at the Booysens police station for DNA tests to be completed, public prosecutor Colleen Ryan said Harvey Isha, 23, was added to the four accused on Monday.

The charges against the five were changed to murder and attempted murder after 18-year-old Kirsty Theologo died in hospital  last week.

They are Lindon Wagner, 21, Robin Harwood, 18, Lester Moody, 18,  Jeremy King, 18, and Isha.

Theologo and her 14-year-old friend were allegedly doused with petrol and set alight on Friday night, October 21.

Theologo was in a coma at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital with 75% burns to her upper body. She died shortly after 4am last  Friday, Warrant Officer Lorraine Van Emmerik said. “Kirsty Theologo passed away due to her injuries.”

She and her friend were among eight youngsters who reportedly went to a koppie behind the Linmeyer swimming pool in Julius Street  that Friday night.

The two girls were tied up before they were set alight in what has been described as a Satanic ritual.

The first two men handed themselves in to the Booysens police station on Sunday, October 23. The second two handed themselves over last Monday afternoon.

Families of the accused said outside the court they were shocked about the alleged crime.

As mothers they had to stand by their sons, said one mother who would not give her name said.

“No one raises their child to be a murderer,” another said.
