A KEMPTON Park woman was allegedly punched, kicked and bashed against a wall by police until she fainted because "she knew too much".

Lungiswa Ngxande was sitting in her boyfriend's car, which was parked outside her flat in Oak Street, when the police banged on the windows and demanded to know what they were doing in the street.

"My boyfriend picked me up on Saturday night from Jubilee and took me to my flat. While we were saying goodbye a police van came and parked in front of us. They wanted to know what we were doing," she said.

The 23-year-old clerk at the Ekurhuleni Metro Police head office said the police started searching them and their car.

She said "all hell broke loose" when she asked them what they were looking for.

"They said I was arrogant and thought I knew too much. They got hold of my foot and pulled me out of the car and ignored pleas from my boyfriend, who begged them to leave me alone. They would not listen," she said.

Ngxande said she was taken to Kempton Park police station where the assault continued.

Kempton park police spokesman Captain Jethro Mtshali confirmed that Ngxande had opened a case of common assault against police officers.

"But we don't have her name as one of the people who were arrested. We do have several female names of people who were arrested on the day but hers is not in our system," he said.

Mtshali said the case was under investigation.

Ngxande said at the police station an officer punched her and stomped on her until she fainted.

"A female cop (known only as Lekalakala) slapped me and banged my head against the wall. A male cop joined in and kicked me in the chest with his boot. My T-shirt still has a boot imprint on it. That was when I fainted," said Ngxande.

She said the police poured cold water on her in an attempt to bring her to. Ngxande said Lekalakala told her she was lucky a certain officer was off duty, otherwise she would not have woken up.

"I was scared and I did not know what to do because other police officers were just standing there laughing. I was later handcuffed and put into the cells," she said.

Ngxande admitted she had consumed alcohol, but denied she was drunk.
