Nicolene Hugo, wife of Dawie Hugo, principal of Lettie Fouché School , was apparently upset after arguing with her eldest daughter on Sunday.
Hugo, 51, left their flat at the school boarding house to go for a drive "to clear her head", the report said.
Friends told the newspaper Hugo had suffered from depression. Paramedics and the police were on the scene shortly after she tried to drive into a truck around 11.30am on Sunday.
The truck, which was transporting cattle, swerved and missed her. It only scratched her Nissan bakkie, which landed in a ditch.
When people tried to help her she ran in front of a smaller oncoming truck, the report said. - Sapa
