Pair get life for rape

"They were crying after the judge gave them life sentences"

TWO men were yesterday each jailed for life by the Bethlehem high court for raping a woman at her home in Bohlokong two years ago.

In addition, they were also sentenced to prison terms of 10 years each for robbing the woman of her cellphone.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the men - Morena Mofokeng 26, and Lebohang Sibisi, 21 - cried when Judge Jake Moloi passed sentence.

"They were crying after the judge gave them life sentences.

"They insisted that they were innocent but they were linked to the crime by a DNA test that was carried out in Pretoria."

Mophiring said there were many incidents of rape in Bohlokong and the women in the area lived in constant fear:

"It is so sad to see young people committing these crimes. Sibisi is due back in court next week to face three more charges of rape," he said.

Mophiring said the woman, 31, was present in court when the two men were sentenced.

"She said she was happy that the two men had been locked away for life, but it was clear she needed more counselling.

"She is still traumatised by the incident and it may take her a while before she completely gets over her trauma," he said.
