Wife asks: Where is my man?

THE family of a man who went missing 10 years ago at a mine are still waiting for answers about his disappearance.

Thomas Shaniseka Mashimbye went missing underground at Frank shaft 1 Anglo Platinum Rustenburg in North West in 2000. After waiting for decades for answers, his family is demanding the mine sheds light on his disappearance.

His wife Miluva Khaila Mashimbye said: "The mine management stopped releasing his salary when he disappeared. Now we cannot afford to buy food or take the children to school.

"I want the mine management to inform me in writing about the circumstances that led to my husband's loss of life underground and extend the investigation underground. And they should continue with the search for the remains. Maybe I would have closure if I see his body," she added.

"For the past 10 years they have not informed me about any developments."

The National Union of Mineworkers has asked the company to look into the disappearance. In a letter to them, the union said: "We agreed in principles with Anglo Platinum management that we must review the case of two of our comrades who reported to work and have never come out again.

"These comrades are Siras Saphetha and Thomas Shaniseka Mashimbe."

Anglo Platinum spokesperson Thabisile Phumo promised to investigate the matter.
