'Don't forgive my killer ex'

THE daughter of a man murdered by Lebogang Dakota has asked a Johannesburg high court judge to sentence the accused to life imprisonment

According to a pre-sentencing report compiled by social worker Annette Vergeer, Phindile Tshabalala, whose father Sipho Dlwathi was shot dead by Dakota outside his home in Kagiso September last year, asked Judge Lötter Wepener not to be lenient when sentencing her ex-boyfriend and the father of her two children.

In June Dakota was found guilty of murder, assault, attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a firearm as well as unlawful possession of ammunition.

Tshabalala said the accused came to her home on September 3, asking that the two reconcile following a break-up in December 2009. They had been dating for seven years.

She said after she refused he threatened her children.

The following day Dakota returned to the house where he was confronted by Dlwathi.

When Dakota threatened to shoot Tshabalala, Dlwathi pleaded with accused to rather shoot him and leave his daughter. He shot Dlwathi.

The matter was adjourned to Thursday for the testimony of Dlwathi's widow in aggravation of sentence.
