A WOMAN found with 1995 units of perlemoen (abalone) was arrested in Philippi, Cape Town, police said

The 36-year-old woman was arrested at a house in Philippi East after police received a tip-off on Wednesday, Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

The perlemoen, with an estimated street value of R250000, was found in 15 plastic bags in two fridges.

The woman had no permit to be in possession of abalone, Van Wyk said.

The woman will appear at the Athlone magistrate's court today.
