Lovers fight gets nasty inside cop shop

He followed her to the police station and continued assaulting her - Cop shot him when he pulled out a gun

A Durban man was wounded by the police when he pulled out a gun during a fight at a police station in Mayville, police said on Friday.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the man had a fight with his live in girlfriend at 7.15pm on Thursday.

She sought help at the Mayville police station, but he followed her there and continued assaulting her, said Mdunge.

Two policeman intervened and a fight ensued during which the man  pulled out a firearm.

One of the policemen shot him twice in the neck, seriously wounding him.

He was taken to hospital, where he was placed under police guard.

The man faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, pointing a firearm and attempted murder, said Mdunge.
