'Nepotism in councils out'

DISMAL performances by municipalities and government departments will continue to be a thorny issue in Limpopo as long as nepotism continues in the appointment of personnel.

This was said by local government, housing and traditional affairs MEC Soviet Lekganyane at a gala dinner at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane last Friday following his budget speech.

Lekganyane said it was vital for new mayors and councillors inaugurated after the elections on May 18 to fight corruption - especially in the appointment of personnel. "Brotherhood, which has hampered service delivery and gave rise to community protests for a lack of services, will not work in our municipalities."
