May the force be with you - after high school

Bheki Cele introduces mandatory conscription to all students from Model C schools. These students are required to spend a year in the police force before going to university.

After much deliberation, National police commissioner General Bheki Cele has announced that all high school children attending Model C schools will be recruited into the police force for a year after their matric year, regardless of whether they passed matric or not.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Johannesburg yesterday.

Cele went on to say that he is considering the recruits of youth league members to lead the matriculants into becoming better men.

Public school students, he said will be considered at a later stage or not at all.

The Youth Leagues could not be reached for comment on the matter as to whether they agree to be reruited or not.
