2 in court for burning petrol station boss

Employees allegedly set a petrol station manager alight

The trial of two men accused of setting a petrol station manager  alight was postponed in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Limpopo police said.

The bail application of 32-year-old Joseph Maphurumela could not  take place as he had been readmitted to hospital for treatment of minor burns, Colonel Malesela Ledweba said.

His co-accused, Almon Mohlala, 38, was arrested last Monday in connection with the attack and granted R1000 bail. He was also an employee at the petrol station.

Both allegedly set 34-year-old Jaco Rossouw alight at a Kranskop  service station on March 6, minutes after an argument.

Rossouw had still not been discharged from a Gauteng hospital, Ledweba said.

Maphurumela was discharged from hospital on March 8 after receiving treatment for minor burns, but was apparently readmitted following complications.

The men are expected back in court on March 28.
