IFP youths set to elect leaders

THE IFP Youth Brigade leadership has assured its members and delegates attending this weekend's much-anticipated elective conference in Ulundi that nothing will stop them from electing a new leadership.

The conference starts today at Mandleni-Matleng camp and ends on Sunday.

IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi will deliver the keynote address tomorrow.

Other senior IFP leaders are also expected to attend the conference.

Youth Brigade national secretary, Nhlanhla Hadebe said preparations had gone according to plan and everything will go as expected.

"I want to assure delegates that the conference will be peaceful, though robust debates and discussions are expected as happens when young people are gathering.

"We are expecting between 2500 to 3000 delegates in accordance with our branches," said Hadebe.

The last IFPYB conference held in 2008 was marred by controversy that led to two candidates - Thulasizwe Buthelezi and Irvin Barnes - withdrawing from the leadership race.

Current acting youth brigade national chairperson Pat Lebenya-Ntanzi is expected to get stiff opposition from current Sadesmo national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa, the student movement's preferred candidate.

Another Sadesmo leader, its president, Ntuthuko Majozi, is expected to be elected to one of the senior positions in the youth brigade.
