Bridge parade - stars come out to play

JOBURG Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011 raised its curtain on Saturday with couture king David Tlale's much - anticipated bridge show.

The weather gods were kind to Tlale, since it stopped raining just an hour before the event began.

Tlale, who has a reputation for being fashionably late for his shows, kept his followers waiting for one-and-a-half hours. The irritated crowd, which included The Bold And The Beautiful actors Brandon Beemer and Jack Wagner, had to withstand the elements at Mandela Bridge but Wagner lost his patience and walked out.

When Tlale finally arrived he put on an impressive show that was full of surprises. His mob of models, that included The Bold And The Beautiful's Jacqueline Wood, also featured local celebrities of all shapes and sizes.

The bridge was a spectacle to behold, even doubting Thomases' jaws dropped.

Hundreds of Tlale's followers jostled for the best view to witness history in the making. The show was like a witches' coven. Models wearing black capes were ushered to the bridge by a haunting Gregorian chant.

Tlale's pieces, though impressive, did not have the drama he's known for.

His collection was very tame and the feathers he is known for were absent. There were many wearable and practical outfits.

The show appeared un-rehearsed. Some of the celebrities who modelled were disorderly, greeting fans as they walked across the bridge.

The showstopper, worn by former Miss SA Kerishnie Naicker, attracted much applause. As usual, Tlale got a standing ovation from a crowd that included his visibly pleased mom.
