Faulty buses taken off Moloto Road

TWENTY Putco buses were impounded on Moloto Road between KwaMhlanga and Pretoria yesterday for various offences.

The offences included unroadworthiness, after some buses were found to have no licence discs, overloaded and operating without an operating licence.

David Nkambule, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga roads and transport department, said the buses that were declared unroadworthy had since been suspended from the road and will have to be retested for roadworthiness.

"All impounded buses have been taken to our offices in KwaMhlanga and will be kept there until the owners pay a fine of R2500 per bus," said Nkambule.

Nkambule warned other bus operators and road users that they would pay a heavy price if they did not obey the rules of the road because "one life lost on the road is one life too many".
