ANC steps up election campaign

LIMPOPO has become the focal point this week of ANC national and provincial leaders who are hard at work with door-to-door campaigns to woo potential voters in this year's local government elections

The province will be a hive of activity after stepping into the spotlight after its selection as host of this year's ANC January 8 statement address by President Jacob Zuma at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The ANC also used this opportunity to interact with the masses ahead of the big event on Saturday.

It all started on Monday, with various leaders of the organisation visiting several areas of the province and also making door-to-door campaigns. The party has deployed its senior cadres serving on its national executive committee (NEC) to various parts of the province to hold mini rallies and lectures.

ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe was at the Namakgale Community Hall near Phalaborwa on Tuesday, where he listened to concerns raised by ordinary members of the party who complained about their leaders. They said the leaders were only interested in being elected to positions and were nowhere to be seen afterwards.

"This is a matter that will be looked into seriously," said Mantashe, who also visited the Greater Tubatse municipality in Burgersfort yesterday.

Yesterday also saw Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Dina Pule, Fikile Xasa, Febe Potgieter-Gqubule, Billy Masetlha and Trevor Manuel visiting Dendron (east) on a door-to-door campaign.

A mini rally in Dendron (west) was also being addressed by ANC NEC member Ngoako Ramatlhodi.

Malusi Gigaba, Lindiwe Zulu, David Mabuza, Dikeledi Magadzi, Phumulo Musualle, and Bridgette Mabandla, were among those deployed to the Lepelle-Nkumpi municipality in Lebowakgomo and surrounding areas.

The campaigns will continue until Saturday when Zuma will present the January 8 statement.
