Fashion fete set for Cape Town

ALL EYES are on Cape Town Convention Centre as the Mother City welcomes the crème de la crème of fashion to the Spring-Summer 2011 fashion week.

The fashion fete begins today and continues until Saturday.

Top fashion designer David Tlale predicts that the runway will have lots and lots of simple clean lines, with a coastal feel and nothing too dramatic.

"Many of the trends on the ramp will emerge from last year's trends. Also, the designs are expected to be very Cape Town oriented because of the market they serve."

Today sees The Graduate Show, Coppelia/Suzaan Heyns, Michelle Ludek/Doreen Southwood, Good Clothing/Tart and Kluk CGDT flaunting their stuff.

Unquestionably, the most eagerly awaited show is Nkhensani Nkosi's Stoned Cherrie show tomorrow. She will present her Love Movementrange while celebrating the label's 10th birthday.

The range was recently netted by Foschini and is inspired by the philosophy that only love is real love.

"The range is inspired by global icons and peace-lovers the world over and is born out of the belief that peace comes from knowing that only love is real," she said.

Stoned Cherrie was the first African brand to sign a licensing deal with Woolworths to stock a line of garments as part of its South African designers range.

Showing alongside Stoned Cherrie will be David West, Craig Port with Kim Govaars for Miss Port, Southern Sun Swimwear featuring Dax Martin and Lovewaterlove.
