2 council officials barred

THE Elias Motsoaledi municipality in Marble Hall has suspended its municipal manager and chief financial officers after it failed to meet the auditor-general's requirements.

The decision is in line with an agreement signed by all municipalities in Limpopo to work towards a clean audit by 2014.

Langa Kabini and Nancy Rampedi were suspended on Tuesday with full pay pending investigations.

Mayor Lionel Seloane said the council decided to suspend the two because they had failed to perform their duties.

Seloane said the two had failed to support the audit by the AG as required by law.

The Limpopo government this year resolved to work tirelessly to ensure that all government departments and municipalities received clean audits by 2014.

The agreement was signed by all mayors, MECs, heads of departments and municipal managers.

Kabini, in his capacity as municipal manager, had failed to attend some of the meetings of the steering committee, which dealt with issues of documentations relating to finance.

Kabini, as the accounting officer of the municipality, was also the chairperson of the steering committee.

Rampedi was accused of failing to submit financial documents of the municipality to both Kabini and the auditor-general.

"We are disappointed in the attitude the two had delayed in submitting documentation to the AG, hence the decision to suspend them," Seloane said yesterday.

He said the council wanted to satisfy itself as to whether they had failed to submit the documents or the documents did not exist.
