A VILJOENSKROON man was sentenced to an effective life term by the Kroonstad regional court yesterday for posing as a police officer to enter the home of an 81-year-old woman to rape her.
Thato Ntepe, 29, was sentenced to 15 years for house breaking, one year for impersonating a police officer, and 25 years for rape, to run concurrently, said Free State police Colonel Motantsi Makhele.
Ntepe was arrested at a tavern in Viljoenskroon on August 10, nine days after the attack and confessed to a magistrate, said Makhele.
Following the court verdict, Free State police's Lieutenant-General Amon Mashigo commended the investigating officer and the judicial system on a "job well done".
