Sky's the limit in Durbs

DURBAN'S popular SkyCar, SkyWalk, Big Swing and tours at Moses Mabhida Stadium are back in action for the public

Residents had been waiting with bated breath for the one-of-a-kind SkyCar that travels up and down the now-famous arch of the stadium. The SkyCar was stopped due to the stadium being the property of Fifa and the LOC during the World Cup tournament.

A ride on it offers passengers a panoramic 360-degree view of Durban and the Indian Ocean coastline.

Lara McLeod, the stadium's public relations officer, said the return of the SkyCar should serve as good news for those who may be wondering what to do with themselves once the World Cup is over.

"Certainly, this shows that there will be plenty to do at the stadium with shops and many attractions open seven days a week," she said.

Shops include Keg & Spear and Nino's, where one can enjoy a coffee, cocktail or leisurely meal. Sneakers and STS Sports provide branded sports clothing, equipment and Fifa merchandise.

About 150,000 people have enjoyed a variety of attractions on offer in only six months of operation since November 30 last year, and 150 corporate functions and conferences have been successfully hosted in a variety of spectacular venues around the stadium.

McLeod, however, said professional stadium tours will not open for a few more weeks due to Fifa de-establishment, removals and refurnishing inside the stadium.
