Andile Gaelisiwe of SABC1's Khumbul'khaya fame says she is comfortable in her looks.
While her new dress sense is currently the talk of town, she says those who are bothered by it "must go get a life".
Andile, 35, spoke to Sowetan yesterday for the first time since her mini dress caused a stir at the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in Pretoria on February 7.
The television presenter, who ascended the State Theatre stage to take the Saftas statuette for SABC1's show Khumbul'khaya, was wearing a short, one-shouldered cream dress that revealed her shapely legs. This caused a stir among the guests, with some complaining that it was too short for someone of her age.
Others complimented her, remarking that she was probably in the market for a younger man after her divorce from sport presenter Udo Carelse.
"I am not looking for a younger man. Those who think like that must go get a life. I am just expressing the sense of self, showing growth. I like taking care of myself, and this new grooming is part of growing up.
"I bought the dress in the US during winter, and I never once thought it was something I was going to wear at a function and cause controversy.
"In April I am hiring a personal trainer to complete the picture of this new me," she said.
She was, however, not the only one wearing a mini-skirt at the function.
Channel O presenter Nonhle Tema wore what looked like the shortest skirt in town, but some people pointed out that her age allowed her to dress like that.
