Teachers who abandoned classes after a hijacking incident at Bhobhobho Primary in KwaNongoma are back at school.

This follows the deployment of security guards at the school this week.

The school was closed two weeks ago and reopened on Monday after the deployment of the guards as promised by the department of education.

A teacher was killed during a hijacking incident four months ago.

After the incident learning was disrupted, with teachers claiming they feared for their lives.

Two weeks ago learning came to a standstill when teachers downed tools and applied for transfers after a delay in the deployment of guards.

On Monday the department posted two security guards at the school.

This led to the return of teachers to class.

The department and the National Teachers Union (Natu) said the two guards would be stationed at the school until permanent security guards were deployed.
