Two of the people involved in an accident at the weekend, in which kwaito sensation L'vovo Derango was also injured, have died.

L'Vovo and Zakes Matiti, an artists manager, were admitted to a Gauteng hospital.

They were on their way to OR Tambo International Airport to catch a 9pm flight to Durban after their performance in Delmas.

Sowetan learnt yesterday that L'vovo and Matiti were to undergo operations at a private clinic in Springs.

"L'vovo has a broken arm and his nose has several stitches and needs further operations. He is out of danger and has been stabilised," said a source close to L'vovo and Matiti.

Matiti was not as seriously hurt as L'vovo.

Music promoter Prosper Mkwaiwa, who organised the Delmas 100 Celebrations where the musicians performed, described the scene of the accident as "traumatising".

"I was at the scene five minutes after it happened. I have not seen anything like that in my life. It appeared as if L'vovo's driver lost control of the car while trying to avoid a car coming from the opposite direction. The car hit them on the driver's side," he said.

The driver of the other car also died on the scene, Mkwaiwa told Sowetan.

The names of the deceased are known to Sowetan, but cannot be published as their next-of-kin have not been informed.
