Bad skin spoils my happiness

I AM 16 years old and suffering from chubabas (blemished skin). It becomes worse when I have my periods. My face looks swollen and feels oily.

I don't want to go anywhere when I look like this and I feel that everyone is looking at me.

How can I cure this problem? Suffering, Sebokeng

Dudu responds:

There are steps you can take to try and improve your complexion.

Many people begin having trouble with their skin in their early teens and this can continue until the age of 25.

It is also very common for a girl's skin to worsen during menstruation.

Try to wash your face twice a day with medicated soap and water.

Avoid touching your face and squeezing the pimples as this can lead to permanent scars.

Drink lots of water every day and maintain a healthy diet. Avoid fatty foods and sweets and try to eat fresh fruit and vegetables.

There is medication available so possibly ask your chemist or doctor for advice.

I understand that you must be self-conscious about this problem, but try to remember that sincere people are interested in your personality, friendship and loyalty.
