The Met and it's title sponsor of 39 years J&B parted ways in the beginning of 2016.

The 133-year-old event has become firmly entrenched as a highlight of the South African social calender, with the horses being the main attractions but fashion also being a fabulous distraction before and in-between races.

When the biggest breakup of the year happened, before the Brangelina split, many were left wondering will I ever rock my fascinator again?

Put all your fears to rest because The Met has officially acquired a new title sponsor in the form of Sun International, thus its new title The Sun Met Celebrated with Mumm was born.

As you may have  guessed from the name not the only big luxurious brand that's getting on board.

The Met also attracted international champagne brand Maison Mumm which came on board as the presenting sponsor. The luxury champagne has partnered with actress Pearl Thusi and Rapper AKA in the past.

Sibusiso Shangase Head Of Marketing at Prestige Brands - Pernod Ricard said that Mumm was hoping to bring 'a bit of the glamour and champagne lifestyle' to the horse racing event.

The partnership with  Sun International is for a minimum of three years with an eye on extending the collaboration should provision to do so arise in the future.

The champagne brand has had success partnering up with big horse racing events in the US with the Kentucky Derby and the Melbourne Cup in Australia and were looking to do the same here in Africa.  Shangase would not divulge on how much of an investment the company had put into the race.

"I can't give you an exact figure but we are investing a fair amount of money in  bringing the glamour and the high life. We're already looking to compete with the likes of the Durban July and bringing the event to international levels of the Kentucky Derby and the Melbourne Cup. We're trying to bring that global lifestyle to the African continent. Not taking away from what we've done, we're trying to showcase our horse racing events, that will bring South Africa to the fore in terms of  the horse racing lifestyle."
