Blogger Mika Stefano talks weight loss and healthy living

It may have taken celebrity blogger Mika Stefano a health scare, kidney Stones, to shape up and exercise but maintaining the lifestyle was a personal choice.

“My inspiration was simple. To get healthy, I had just come out of hospital with Kidney Stones due to my bad diet and lack of exercise. So I decided I needed to start eating correctly and exercising. Once I started, I guess I was hooked,” Stefano said.

Stefano who once weighed 98.2kg before transformation believes it’s easy to make gym and healthy eating a lifestyle once you make a decision to.

“Only you can make that change, once you see changes it’s the most self rewarding feeling ever.

Before being hospitalised his eating habits involved fizzy drinks and junk food.

After a year of change in lifestyle, in 2014 he weighed 63kg. 

Like some overweight people, the socialite and blogger was comfortable with his look before the lifestyle change.

 “I was confident in my skin and almost proud of my curves. And one should be. I was ashamed of my health. Eating two to three take away meals a day, having, fizzy drinks and sweets as snacks. I battled to get up a flight of stairs.”

Before taking the step to keep in shape Mika would get out of bed at 10am but now he is able to use his mornings at a gym.

“I had my moments when I was like, why am I waking up so early to go gym. Old Mika would only get out of bed at 10am. But once I got into it, I was hooked. Sometimes I have to force myself not to go train because rest is just as important,” he said.

In 2015 Mika plans to be on the Mzansi’s sexiest list and has tapped into DJ’ing in clubs.

“I have now entered into phase two of my journey - bulking up and gaining muscle. I have also started lifting heavy weights with hopes to get big and muscular.

“Hopefully I will be considered one of Mzanzi's Sexiest of 2015. We need to have some sexy mosadi's on these lists, doing it for the gays who have gym contracts,” he jokes.

Other things I am working on - some radio. As you may know I host a show with Pappa Snoopy on Cliff Central. I have also started club DJ-ing. “

Mika’s tips on Weight Loss:

-Put your mind to it. If your mind is focused on an end goal, then your body will follow

-. Don’t follow a diet, but rather create your own.

-Google different meal plans and see what works best with your budget, your lifestyle and your taste buds.

-Water is a great secret in dropping weight.

-I still have cake or chocolate once or twice a week.

-Having 3 egg whites and oats and some coffee for breakfast can help reduce weight.
