Ways to avoid overspending this festive season

The festive season doesn't have to leave you broke.

We can't stop you from having fun and spending your hard earned money over the festive season but we can advise a little caution and give you tips on how you can spend a little and still have fun.

1. Leave your bank card at home

Going to a club or a party with your bank could be very problematic because when you run out of cash you will definitely swipe. So take enough cash and leave your card at home.

2. Have a budget

Leave home knowing exactly how much you can afford to spend and on what. Then withdraw that exact amount.

3. Spending money on girls does not make you smart.

It actually makes you seem stupid and needy. And girls don’t like needy guys. They will allow you to get them drunk and leave you for someone who did not spend a single cent on them.

4. Home partying over club any time

If you can, try to have a mini ‘chillas’ at home and avoid clubs as much as you can as those are utterly expensive.

Here’s how: A bottle or a can of beer at a club ranges between R25 and R40 and this is just for one. Add just an extra R20 to the R40 and you could easily get a six pack at a bottle store.

Think this through. And when you are at home, you sleep as soon as you get drunk and will not have to drive anywhere and risk getting arrested. So bingo!.

5. If your friends want to drink, they must contribute

This thing of always sponsoring your friends does not make you cool. They use their money to buy groceries for their mothers and come to you for drinking.

Are you Bill Gates? Definitely not. So tell them that you will all contribute the same amount of money towards alcohol and partying in general. ‘Ke Dezemba Boss’.
