Pomp and fun at Cape Town Fashion Week

Wedding gowns boasting sparkling embellishments, luxurious detailing and figure-hugging styles were on show

The yearly Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off at the iconic Cape Town City Hall on Wednesday night, with Rosenwerth inspiring a high energy show.

She impressed many of her followers with her sense of cut, texture, volume and luxurious detailing.

One of her supporters in the audience was soccer star Matthew Booth, who came to the show with his wife Sonia. The two are Fashion Week regulars.

"Rosenwerth holds a special place in our hearts. She designed my wife's wedding dress. We have a very special connection. That is why we always come to her fashion shows," Matthew Booth said.

He added that Cape Town Fashion Week standards were impressive and growing with every event.

The two were not the only ones who attended the opening show: Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, Top Billing's Jeannie D and Carol Bouwer were amongst those at the first showing.

Rosenwerth's show was followed by Philosophy: the clothes were minimalistic in spirit but innovative in their execution. Their essentially feminine collection was wearable and textured surfaces added character to the garments. She experimented with both fluidity and structure.

Kluk CGdT by Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit was the best show of the night.

Their models were accompanied by a live orchestra and featured dazzling wedding gowns, short dresses and playful dresses that hugged the models' curves while still looking professional. Each striking wedding dress maintained a regal ambience that boasted sparkling embellishments, all adding to the vibe of the show.

The yearly Fashion Week is organised by African Fashion International with the support of the Cape Town Fashion Council, SA Tourism and Cape Town Tourism.

On Friday, fashionistas will see heavyweights like Thula Sindi, Hip Hop and Fabriani taking to the stage.

The show ends on Saturday with David Tlale as amongst those showing.

Designers are presenting their Autumn and Winter collections at various iconic venues around the city, and the Johannesburg fashion royal has a surprise location for his show. Watch this space..
