Samas fashion showstoppers

While some won us over with tasteful fashion with a hint of swagger, others left us shocked. We look at the hits and misses:

SOUTH Africa's brightest stars showed up at the South African Music Awards on Monday night at Sun City.

As much as we would like to say we watch award shows for the performances and to see who wins, more often than not, the fashion is what gets everyone talking.

While some won us over with tasteful fashion with a hint of swagger, others left us shocked. We look at the hits and misses:

Hits

The always on-trend Live presenter Bonang Matheba, dressed by Gert Coetzee, for whom she is a spokesmodel, was show-stopping. She brought some serious sexiness to the yellow carpet with her light pink see-through dress with a 3D-texture floral detail. Her dress was perfectly punctuated with amazing Diva Devine hair.

Kudos to The Media Career Guide Show presenter Boitumelo Thulo for looking amazing in a pink mermaid dress. Her beautiful body did justice to it and the dress's cut was made for her figure.

Top marks to Lira for not overdoing it but her dress was positively mid-week party and not Sama-appropriate.

Metro FM DJ Azania Ndoro looked as sweet as candy in a Fashion Studio dress.

Thembi Seete was a modern-day Barbie in a dress made out of black leather with gold lining and laser-cut detail. She was nothing but an impeccable hit.

El-Tido must have been the cutest guy in his black suit. His look was very spick-and-span. Yummy.

Donald looked amazing in Palse Homme. Sigh.

Misses

And then there were the randoms we would never have expected to see on the yellow carpet.

The worst dressed of the night must be musician Nothende. She gave so much more than we could have ever expected: a big thigh and some laughter.

Minenhle Dlamini is usually hot on the red carpet but on Monday she looked like she was washed out to sea and then made her way to the Sun City. What was that all about, Minnie?

Zizo Beda was disappointing. She looked like she had a bad Matric dance night in her dress.

Jen Su might have confused the Samas with the Durban July. She came with a fascinator on her wrist.

Top Billing presenter Lorna Maseko's gold dress was beautiful but it looked two sizes too small for her body.

As usual Chommie, who walked the yellow carpet with Arthur Mafokate's hot son, was boring. But her boss Mafokate looked ravishing in a black suit. Hmmm!

While Zahara didn't look bad in her NN Vintage red dress, it slightly lacked that extra factor for such a big event. Her hair and make-up could have been a tad stronger.

Like Zahara, Katlego Danke looked pretty but there was nothing extraordinary about the overall ensemble.

Nomhle Thema took plain to another level in a maroon Sies! Isabel dress. She looked like she was going to the park.

The most beautiful woman in SA Melinda Bam's dress was soooo yellow. It didn't suit her skin tone.

Attention-loving Somizi Mhlongo was in his element wearing high heels. Men don't wear high heels, sir.

Actress and presenter Palesa Mocuminyane looked like she was underdressed for the Soweto beach party.

You could have mistaken singer Judith Sephuma for a soldier who had escaped from an army camp in a dress. The dress was difficult to ignore.
