What's the fascination with flavoured beer?

Chocolate, Banana, watermelon, lime; one would be forgiven for thinking that we were talking about juice but believe it or not, these are beer flavours.

Breweries are now looking beyond the traditional beer taste and have started experimenting with different flavours.

Flying Fish and Castle lime are two which have recently launched in our country to some mixed reviews.

While traditional beer lovers have dismissed these new products as watered down versions of the real thing, those with a more daring taste have embraced this new phenomenon.

According to Reprtbuyer.com, 42% of adult drinkers under 34 consume flavoured beers globally so there definitely is a market for the product.

In some cases the flavouring can be intensified to make the brew taste nothing like beer.

 “The world of flavoured beers has a continuum, where flavoured beer can range in its beer character and flavour intensity, from “beer-like” to “not beer like”, Leanne Martin, Castle Lite’s Through-the-line Marketing Manager.
