Ford regrets controversial ads

INDIA - Ford apologised yesterday for adverts showing Silvio Berlusconi driving off in a car with bound and gagged women in the boot.

A spokeswoman for the Indian subsidiary of Ford Motor Company said the adverts were made by an agency working for them and never used in a campaign. They have been removed from the agency's website.

It showed three bound and gagged women in the trunk of a Ford Figo with the former Italian leader waving a victory sign from the driver's seat. The tagline says "Leave your worries behind with Figo's extra-large boot."

Another showed Paris Hilton driving, with the three Kardashian sisters tied up in the back.

Ford said it "deeply regretted" the incident and that the images were "contrary to Ford' s standards of professionalism and decency ". The ads had not been approved by its officials, it said.
