ONLINE dating now offers a platform where "sugar daddies" can find suitable "sugar babies".

Online dating website Aluxxa.com was launched in South Africa last week, branching from the original United Kingdom company.

After a survey featuring 2884 female respondents aged 18 years and older, money was one of the five elements found to be chief among the attraction factors.

"Shifts in trends show that women are independent and have their own jobs, but they are still looking for partners of higher standards, without being judged," Aluxxa.com SA site spokeswoman Janine Lloyd said. "Times are tough for everyone, causing financial pressure - but ultimately that's what relationships are about."

The other four things women looked for in men were a sense of humour, a great job, good hygiene and being great in bed.

Aluxxa.com's target market has been classified into two groups- the "sugar daddies" and "sugar babies".

No under-18s are allowed.

Sugar daddies are defined as professional and successful men in their 30s, 40s and 50s looking for either a serious relationship or a short-term arrangement, with spoiling benefits for the chosen damsels.

"They have professional career paths and financial stability, because all women want to be spoilt" Lloyd explained.

Lloyd said the "sugar babies" were young, attractive women, who were either at universities, from small towns looking for financial stability or in some sort of financial need.

"The modern-day 'sugar baby' is looking for a man closer to their age, not older than 15 years age difference, but also closer to their personal standards."

Lloyd pointed out that female members had greater chances of meeting the men of their dreams online, and decreasing any foreseeable disappointments.

"Women have grown tired of the bar situation, without a guaranteed connection. They do not want to spend hours, wasting their time, because ... being mobile and online is easier."
