WHILE other people are trying to lose weight, actress Kgomotso Christopher is on a separate, desperate quest: trying hard to add kilograms.

Christopher, who plays Katlego Sibeko in the SABC soapie Isidingo, says she has been battling with weight gain since she was a young girl.

Now a mother of two, Christopher has decided to enlist the services of Letshego Moshoeu, a biokinetics practitioner, to help her bulk up.

What is the snag? Christopher has a high metabolism. This means that her body is burning calories at a greater rate than average. People with high metabolisms can generally eat more food without gaining weight.

"I have had to live being called all sorts of names all my life because of my weight. I lose weight uncontrollably even though I have a huge appetite. The more I eat the more I disappear."

She adds that people think that she is on a diet or is having an eating disorder.

"I have been taken for tests by production companies I work for. We have been to dieticians and nutritionists. They did not find anything. People think that I am hiding something."

She adds that she gets questions from young girls who ask her what she takes to lose weight.

"They don't believe me when I tell them that I eat fast food pretty much every day of my life. I'm also having protein shakes in-between my meals to gain weight. I only go to gym for yoga.

"When some people are stressed they gain weight, but I lose.

"What concerns me is that people dwell too much on my weight than my work."

During the recent Durban July, Christopher attracted curious stares and whispers when she turned up in a loose-hanging Vesselina Pentcheva dress that exposed her right thigh.

Her trainer says Christopher lost weight during the weekend of the Durban July because she did not like the food in Durban.

"I am helping her with resistance training, which is weight lifting to help her gain muscle," the trainer says.

"She is the only client I am helping to gain weight.

"We do quick warm-ups for about five minutes just to warm the body up to avoid injuries."
