Women of the year finalists are named

SHOPRITE wants to shine a light on a group of women who are making a difference in the lives of others.

Yesterday the 2012 Shoprite Checkers Women of the Year Award announced three finalists in each of its five categories. The finalists were selected from hundreds of entries from around the country.

Their work is currently being profiled in the media with the public being invited to vote for the women who they believe to be the most deserving of the awards.

The public vote will account for 30% of the final score although the judges' decision will be final.

The event's spokeswoman, Patti Quinton, said through this award the Shoprite Group wants to focus the attention of South Africans on finding solutions to critical challenges affecting the country and its plans for the future.

Each winning individual will receive a cash prize.

The group will also give R100000 towards the work these winners do that impacts positively on the future of the country.

lThe socio-economic business developers category nominees are Judy Stuart, Nyeleti Mushwana and Virginia Shuku.

lThe good neighbours against crime category nominees are Sinikiwe Biyela, Margi Biggs and Judy Govender.

lThe educators category nominees are Jane Keen, Nomonde Ntsundwana and Marisa van der Merwe.

lThe youth movers category nominees are Shéri Brynard, Liesel James and Kashveera Chanderjith.

lThe health care-givers category nominees are Cwengi Myeni, Barbara Rass and Tina Botha.

The winners will be announced on July 21.
