PE's the next big thing...

HE STEPPED into the spotlight when he played Thando S, an annoying gay stylist in the soapie Generations.

Born and bred in Sydenham in Port Elizabeth, Lutho John holds a degree in musical theatre.

He is a stage actor who does musical theatre and is also a dancer who does ballet to tap dancing to contemporary dancing. He speaks to Sowetan about Port Elizabeth.

What do you like about Port Elizabeth?

I love the dramatic weather - four seasons in one day - and the safety, because unlike the concrete jungle I now live in there is no heavy traffic. I also love hearing my mother tongue, IsiXhosa, on the streets. Those clicks make me gush!

Which are your favourite restaurants there and why?

Angelo's in Central. It is a great place to eat, drink and play and has lots of hot people.

Your favourite nightspot in Port Elizabeth?

Zanzibar Jazz Bar also Kwa Babra in the township. It's a mix of this and that. When my white spirit kicks in you'll find me at the beach strip bopping my head with friends.

Like everyone else I go to Greenacres and if I don't want a crazy rush you'll find me strolling in Walmer Park.

Favourite hotel or B&B in Port Elizabeth?

The Radisson without a doubt!

What makes Port Elizabeth great?

John Kani, Nomhle Nkonyeni, Athol Fugard, Zolani Mahola, Lutho John - need I continue?

Where do you chill with your friends?

I chill in cheap vintage shops in the city and Summerstrand. You'll also find me rolling in the coloured townships.

Where would you take a tourist for entertainment in Port Elizabeth?

Everywhere. Seriously, PE has a bustling vibe from township to emaBurbs and everything in between from food to fashion.

What's your favourite place to go for a quiet meal with your family?

My mom and I also enjoy Spargo's. They really have a winning recipe, great food, low prices and friendly service.

How do you see the city's future?

It's the next big thing... It could be the San Francisco of Africa!
