A garage sale is a great way to make money

WANT some extra cash for that posh car or house that you've been driving past every time you go into town?

Maybe you have your heart set on a university degree or tickets to a band that is coming to your town.

A fast and easy way to get the cash you need is a garage sale. And it also cleans out all those things that you don't use any longer.

Garage sales, regardless of location, are popular. If organised properly, you will have lots of customers. A garage sale is also a lot of fun and can bring family and friends together.

Check out the by-laws from your local municipality then decide where you are going to have the sale. The location should be easily accessible. There is nothing worse to a customer than not finding the venue.

Stay close to main roads, and make sure that it is a location that allows for easy directions on paper and on the phone.

Now, decide on the items that you are going to be offering in the sale.

Go through all your clothing, shoes and accessories that you no longer wear, furniture, the garage, closets, backyard and even your office at work.

Another great suggestion is to call up other family members and friends to see if they would like to get rid of some of their things, or if, perhaps, they would like to take part in the sale.

Make sure you advertise widely. Putting an advert in your community newspapers is a good idea and so is handing out flyers at busy intersections.

Also, search online for sites that allow you to list garage sales. As the market for garage sales continues, it is managing to find its way to the onlinecommunity.

Lastly, make sure that you have lots of change because most people will be handing you R10 and R20 notes.

Have your space laid out to look both pleasing and full from the road as well as to have a nice easy flow for those people who will be walking around the items on offer at the sale.
