North West is the place for Mosadi

MOTSWEDING FM presenter Douglas Mosadi is the man credited with bringing hip-hop to the station.

Born and bred in Dobsonville, Soweto, he moved to Mafikeng in North West in 1985, where he subsequently followed his dream of becoming a radio DJ.

Mosadi lives in Unit 6, Mafikeng.

Fondly known as D-Mos, he had his breakthrough when he auditioned at the Youth Programme Auditions for Radio Mmabatho in 1991.

He made his radio broadcast debut a year later, and now boasts a loyal listenership of more than a million across the country.

What do you like about North West?

Respect and the most welcoming people is what stands out about this province.

What are your favourite restaurants in the province and why?

Swagger Inn and 69 Restaurant are my favourite places. Swagger Inn has the best wings and 69 has the best oxtail.

Where do you go for shopping when you are there and why?

Montshiwa Complex, where you do your hair in a salon and take a short walk to a bottlestore for a cold beer and hit shisa nyama. I also like Mafikeng Mall in Klerksdorp, Mooi River in Potchefstroom and Waterfall Mall in Rustenburg.

These are the best malls in our province.

Favourite hotel or B&B in North West and why:

I love Royal Marang, the most beautiful hotel in the province after the Lost City. I also love Kedar Lodge in Phokeng.

What makes North West great?

Nature is what sells our province. We have the most outstanding game reserves, among them Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which has the Big Five.

Where do you chill out with your friends when in the province?

On Fridays we go to Montshiwa Complex and on Saturdays, if I'm in Rustenburg, I go and chill out at City Jive. On Sundays I chill out at Red Ox in Mafikeng, were I entertain my friends with Soul and R&b.

Where would you go for entertainment as a tourist in NW and why?

City Jive in Rustenburg. It caters for everyone when it comes to music.

What are the essential places to go if you only have a weekend to visit NW?

In Klerksdorp you have to go to Cubah if you love restaurants, and if you love clubbing, Goodfellas should be your choice. In Rustenburg check out News Café and City Jive. In Mafikeng, check out Swagger Inn or 69. If these do not tickle your fancy try Lapaka Inn?

What's your favourite place to go for a quiet meal with your family?

Ocean Basket is the place to eat. They have the best seafood in the province.
