THE Knysna Hospice will benefit from the proceeds of special performances by the South African Ballet Theatre dancers as well as young talent from its dance academy later this month.

These fundraising performances will commence at the NGK Hall on Fichat Street in Knysna, Western Cape, from August 24 to 27.

For 10 years the SABT, the country's foremost ballet company, has travelled to Knysna to raise funds for the hospice.

Appearing on the programme are principal dancer Burnise Silvius as well as up-and-coming dancers Shannon Glover, Hyun Cho and NicoleFerreira.

The company will present glittering excerpts from their repertoire and works choreographed for this tour, such asForever by Iain MacDonald and Menealo, choreographed by senior soloist Humberto Montero. Also on the programme are highlights from SABT's recent season of Romeo and Juliet, which was presented to critical acclaim at the Joburg Theatre.

The dancers are joined for the first time in Knysna by members of its academy, which was established to give promising young dancers the opportunity to supplement their training with private teachers.

Everyone is encouraged to support this season because all proceeds will ensure that palliative care will continue for those in desperate need in the community, which stretches from Harkerville in the east through to Knysna, Sedgefield and the Wilderness.

Bookings for this special programme opens today at Sotheby's, Woodmill Lane in Knysna.

A master class will also be conducted by the brilliant Shannon Glover, who is a senior soloist.

This special class is open to the public and t offers a very entertaining behind-the-scenes glimpse into this established ballet company's daily training regime.

If you love ballet, this is an opportunity to enjoy fine ballet as well as help those in need.
