Green living made easy

AFTER being vocal about living a green life for a long time now, television presenters Michelle Garforth-Venter and Riaan Venter have taken the initiative to another level.

The married couple have launched a television show called Greenline. It is aimed at educating and entertaining South Africans on how to live a sustainable and greener life.

The 26-episode show starts on February 20 at 4pm on SABC3.

Joining the green couple is actor Luthuli Dlamini and DIY specialist and paint master Max Thongani.

The team of green heroes will teach viewers how to save money in a practical and easy-to-follow format.

Viewers will be taught how to become green ambassadors in their own surroundings and also how to shop with a green eye.

"Many people want to start living a green life, but are confused by the avalanche of information, which is sometimes very conflicting. Many companies mask themselves with a green exterior without being 100 percent green compliant." Garforth-Venter says.

She adds that the environment and all the creatures that live in it are dependent on people making responsible development choices.

"In fact, the future of the human race depends on the decisions we make today. Remember, we only have one planet to call home," Garforth-Venter says.

Dlamini, who has acted in many shows including Scandal, says a lot of research will go into products to make sure that they are in fact safe for the environment.

Greenline will look at topics such as homes, gardening, food, electrical goods, transport, fashion and skin care. It has been created with today's South African lifestyle in mind.

Greenline will show that going green might seem overwhelming at first, but making educated choices will have a favourable impact on our lifestyle, environment, finances and overall wellbeing.
