Hugh Jackman accidentally cut himself with a knife on stage last night (05.11.14) during a preview performance of his Broadway play 'The River'.

The 'Wolverine' actor was left bleeding during a preview performance of his Broadway show 'The River' - in which he plays a fisherman - when he sliced himself during a quiet scene where he cleans and guts a fish.

Despite the incident, the performance continued and his spokesperson told the New York Daily News newspaper afterwards that he didn't require stitches and had been able to sign autographs for fans after the show.

Ahead of the production starting, the 46-year-old actor had previously admitted he was worried about accidentally injuring himself on stage at Circle in the Square Theatre during that scene.

He said: ''If I cut myself and start bleeding all over the place it Because he plays a fisherman in the play, Hugh - who has children Oscar, 14, and Ava, nine, with wife Deborra-Lee Furness - has been practicing cooking fish at home.

He said: ''I had four fish delivered recently, and they turned out really good. ''It had been such a long time since I had cooked on my own in the kitchen. But at 46, it feels good to be trying new things, even if it's gutting trout.''
