Kalushi grossed R763k in opening week

It's been a week since local film Kalushi hit cinemas across the country and its opening domestic week numbers are in.

The biopic documenting the historic life of struggle stalwart Solomon Mahlangu has grossed at the box office a total of R763 877 to date.

The movie, starring an ensemble cast of Thabo Rametsi, Pearl Thusi, Thabo Malema, Jafta Mamabolo and Welile Nzuza opened last week Friday.

Directed by Mandla Dube, 'Kalushi' has been in the making for the last ten years. 

Last year, local romantic drama 'Happiness is a Four-Letter Word' featuring high-profile stars Khanyi Mbau, Mmabatho Montsho as well as Renate Stuurman in the lead grossed R5 million in ten days. Directed by Thabang Moleya, the film went on to reach the R10 million mark in 30 days.

Another local romantic drama 'Mrs Right Guy' starring Thando Thabethe, Dineo Moeketsi, Thapelo Mokoena and Lehasa Moloi made R1 million in its opening weekend.
