Thami explores life and divinity on new TV show

Thami Ngubeni oozes with positivity. I soon find out as I sit next to her in a lavish garden that her aura is calming and reassuring, almost like a nurturer.

Perhaps it's her on-air persona on Metro FM on TheSacred Space, her religious Sunday morning show, that has painted her in this peaceful light. She only has a halo missing.

I meet Ngubeni at the SABC2's Game Changers launch in Honeydew, northern Johannesburg, recently to talk about her TV show Life with Thami. We are surrounded by television stars from the channel, and she squeezes in a few minutes for a chat.

From next week Saturday February 11, fans can tune into SABC2 at 6pm for the show that gives perspective on real-life challenges.

She tells me about Life with Thami. "As the title explains, this talk show is about life. It is about living life from the inside-out as opposed to the outside-in. It is really about drawing strength from within, and that will sustain you," Ngubeni says.

The show boasts 13 episodes with heartfelt topics being tackled in each episode.

Ngubeni shares some of her favourite moments of the show. "We interviewed [musician] Lira on one episode and explored her philosophy of believing. Lira is so intentional in her life and thus the results match her actions."

The show will have an array of people being interviewed - both famous and ordinary.

"The show will highlight everyone from different walks of life. We will speak to someone who survived cancer as a young girl and was medically diagnosed that she could never have babies in her life, but later conceived.

"We also had an interview with Sello Maake Ka-Ncube on his history of domestic abuse.

"The aim is to have men voice out their struggles and encourage a dialogue of counsel among the community of men. Women are often the ones speaking out and the men judged, but on the episode we speak to men from a point of hurt, so they can heal and counsel each other.

"We focus on divinity. Life with Thami will show how people can get through life positively without camouflaging reality. We laugh, we have fun but are still very real. It is meant for everyone and not just spiritual people, everyone can draw inspiration."

Apart from her amazing looks, figure, knowledge of current affairs and an astounding insight of the Bible, Ngubeni touches lives all over.

"Slay for Christ, wear your make-up and dress well and do your very best. Let the light in you shine so brightly that no one can miss it and don't compromise yourself."

Ngubeni has a media career spanning over 15 years. She hosts a news and current affairs show on Radio 2000. "The work that I do on Radio 2000 is so closely linked to The Sacred Space.

"It relates to the lives of people and all things. God is the maker of all things, so He cares even about our current affairs," Ngubeni says.
