Ntando Kunene hits back at critics over not bringing home the Miss Universe crown

Reigning Miss South Africa Ntando Kunene may not have scooped the Miss Universe crown on Sunday night‚ but she definitely flew the flag high and put on an impressive show for the rest of world.

Despite putting up a fierce fight at the glitzy ceremony in the Philippines‚ Ntando has faced criticism for not bringing home the crown.

However‚ Ntando has no time to entertain the negativity.

Miss France crowned Miss UniverseFrance won its first Miss Universe crown in 64 years on Monday in a made-for-television spectacle where finalists spoke out on the refugee crisis and other hot-button global issues. 

In a lengthy social media statement Ntando hit back at critics. ” Critics say you have heavily disappointed South Africa. Who are those critics? I have never paid attention to people who just sit and criticize‚” she said.

Ntando added that her goal was to inspire girls to strive to make their dreams a reality‚ and believes that she has done so.

 “My journey was to inspire girls in my country to work towards their goals. You may not always get your hearts desires but you should always give it your best. I am confident that I have left footprints that will not only be followed but used as a guideline to better advance women.”

Ntando went on to thank fans who supported and rallied behind her throughout this journey. “I am so thankful to each and every person that has made my journey one to remember and cherish. “

I just woke up from the most beautiful nap   . South Africa and the world thank you for your amazing support and encouragement. I truly appreciate it     . This marks the end of my pageant career, after so many years. No more entering pageants. Im retiring     . it's on to the next phase of my life.
