Actress Mahlatse Letoka‚ who played the role of Xolelewa on Generations: The Legacy‚ has left the popular SABC 1 soapie.

Generations spokesperson Gaaratwe Mokhethi confirmed to TshisaLIVE on Friday that Mahlatse had been ‘released’ from the soapie after her storyline came to an end.

Mahlatse’s character faced a number of difficulties‚ from being homeless to getting kidnapped and forced into prostitution‚ and Gaaratwe said that the show’s writers had run out of ideas of what more to do with her character.

“When you have a character who goes through so much‚ it is difficult to have them return to a normal life. That was the challenge we had with Xolelewa‚” Gaaratwe explained.

Speaking to Move recently‚ Mahlatse opened up about the struggles she faced in portraying her character.

“It was very heavy. I had to do research about human trafficking‚ and to speak to people who have been molested before‚” she explained.

She would not confirm her departure from the show but told the magazine that she had met with the show’s producers last year to discuss her role going forward.

“It is not clear at the moment. I can say my character is on a break. I don’t know for how long‚” Mahlatse said.
