Rapper Nasty C allegedly faked an injury in order to ditch a gig for which he was paid R45000 for a 30-minute performance in favour of Cassper Nyovest's #FillUpOrlando Stadium concert.
Nasty C, who is signed to Mabala Noise Entertainment, left over 1000 disappointed fans in the lurch at Tembisa's Moriting Park, and saddled the show's organiser Zimbi Machaba with a huge bill on Saturday night.
Machaba, who was celebrating his birthday on the night, spent about R5000 on the entertainment needs of the rapper and his three-member entourage.
According to the contract which Sowetan has seen, Nasty C requested a bottle of Ciroc, three bottles of Moet, two bottles of tequila, two bottles of vodkas and snacks. He was to be the headline act.
Machaba had the contract signed on September 9, and all the monies were paid to Mabala Noise seven days before the show.
Nasty C was billed to perform at midnight, and that would have clashed with the #FillUpOrlando Stadium gig where he performed.
On Friday, Machaba said he went to the Mabala Noise offices in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, and was assured all arrangements were in order.
"At 8pm on Saturday a member of Nasty's team, called Darren, said they were experiencing problems and then after 1am Darren texted me saying Nasty C had injured his leg and would set up another date for his show," Machaba said.
The SMS read: "Sorry my man, he has been having problems with his leg from previous show performances, he didn't even do his set at Orlando Stadium due to the same thing because he got injured while performing with Cassper, we will have to arrange something else or another date to do the performance, sorry."
But photographs of a smiling Nasty C performing at the #FillUpOrlando Stadium gig holding an umbrella circulated on social media the next day.
Machaba had little to smile about as he had to count his losses. "Besides the money I've wasted, I've also lost my credibility as a show organiser because of this mess. I want those people to pay me back my money or else I'm involving my lawyers," Machaba said.
Mhlo Gumede, from Mabala Noise, said they became aware of the matter yesterday after Machaba approached their office.
"We will check with our booking agent and also verify the payments. If we are in the wrong we will indeed issue an apology to the organiser and refund him. We only do clean business here," said Gumede.
