'They tried to body shame me': Lerato Kganyago

In this‚ part one of our conversation with Lerato Kganyago‚ we speak to the TV and radio personality about the True Love Photoshop scandal that has erupted around her.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment‚ Kganyago insists that she is standing by curves‚ cellulite and all‚ saying that she has “absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about.”

“I’m disappointed that they (True Love) did this. They thought that they were body shaming me. But nothing could be further from the truth. I often speak about my cellulite. I’m a woman. It’s part of me.”

True Love releases unedited photos of Lerato Kganyago

It all started when the magazine released an image of its latest cover‚ on which Lerato is the main cover star. On social media people commented that the image was so edited that it did not do justice to Lerato’s natural beauty.

She herself said that‚ while the pictures were beautiful‚ the photographer must be disappointed that his work is always “retouched.”

The magazine issued a statement‚ along with unedited pictures of the star‚ saying it would never do anything to tarnish a celeb’s reputation.

A storm has since erupted on social media‚ with fans and celebrities standing by Lerato‚ calling the move by True Love “spiteful” and “vindictive.”

While Lerato herself explains that she has got no shame‚ she does admit that she is disappointed in how the magazine handled the situation.

“At no point did they ask my permission to publish these unedited images. In fact‚ I haven’t heard from them at all. Nobody has been in contact today.”

Lerato added that she does not hate the magazine or harbour any anger towards them. “The support from my fans and industry colleagues has been overwhelming and instead they (True Love) ended up looking tacky in the end.”

Besides releasing the statement‚ the magazine only retweeted the fact that it made it to the Twitter trends list. Since then... silence.

4 - When will our black led publications be in support of each other? What a shame...

Nomzamo Mbatha's thoughts

1. A female publication that prides itself in "women empowerment" is able to body shame the woman who graces it's cover.

2. What makes the situation so devastating is the story that the cover star chose to share, being overshadowed by all the noise.

3. What a sad day it is. For black women and for young black girls. I'm so heavy hearted. Wow
