Boy trips, punches hole through R19 million painting (VIDEO)

A Taiwanese boy tripped and punched a hole in a painting worth $1.5 million (R19 678 350) during a museum tour.

The yet unidentified 12-year-old boy was with a group touring an art exhibition in the Taiwanese capital Taipei.

The organisers of the art exhibition titled "Face of Leonardo: Images of a Genius” released the footage of the incident.  There were 50 paintings on show at the exhibition.

In the video the boy is looking the opposite direction of the painting, and he trips over the paintings display stand.  His right hand, holding an unidentified drink, goes into free-fall. The boy manages to keep the drink upright and not spill it onto the 350-year-old Paolo Porpora, impression, of flowers, oil on canvas.

Unfortunately the hand he stabilised himself with went right through the painting.

According to The Independent, the organisers of the show do not want the boy to blame himself for the accident and that he was very nervous about it.

The organiser also stated that the painting is insured.
