THE monthly Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening music concert at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre conspired to be a romantic affair, thanks to exuberant performances from Brian Temba and Afrotraction on Friday night.

The popular men of song were clearly inspired by the Valentine's Day theme and rose to the occasion, titillating the audience with love songs of their own and from other artists from home and abroad.

Temba, who is a TV heart-throb with his leading role as Ranthumeng in the soapie Muvhango, brought back sweet memories with Sexual Healing (Marvin Gaye) and I Wanna Know, judging by the smiles of patrons. But Temba, a former Lion King cast member, received a more lively response doing his own hits, such as Zanele and Dominoes. His song delivery was effortless, while he looked hot and completely in charge.

He capped it with a solo rendition of Blondie Makhene's Baby I'm Missing You, a special request from MC Hector "Motivator" Motau.

Afrotraction was unfazed doing his radio favourites such as Ngeke K'lunge and Ngimtholile. He invited Kabomo to help him indulge in a song about making "lots and lots and lots of babies". A medley of all-time favourites, including Kori Moraba's Tswang Tswang, showed why Afrotraction is in demand as a live act.

IdolsSA 2014 winner Vincent Bones was the opening act.

It was an uplifting evening overall, with comedian Pastor raising the mood to a different level with his jokes about SA's ethnic groups .
