Penny Lebyane talks Sunrise

Seasoned TV and radio personality Penny Lebyane made her first appearance as the new anchor on Sunrise replacing Sindy Mabe yesterday.

With 15 years of experience in the media industry; the gorgeous Lebyane has added live broadcasting into her success story as the new anchor on ETV’s Sunrise breakfast show every weekday 6am to 8:30am.

While presenting and being in front of the camera is nothing new to her; Lebyane admits that the nerves of starting on a new show still make her feel like it’s her first time entering the industry.

Describing day one of the breakfast show she sums it up as a day of flops and mistakes.

“My first day, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. I mistakenly went into the newsroom instead of the live room,” she says.

“My ear-piece wouldn’t stick to my ear and I struggled to hear my director. The stockings I was wearing split, luckily I had an extra pair. Throughout the show I was drinking water and needed to go pee in-between takes and to top it all off my mic fell in the toilet during one of those trips.”

The former Motswako presenter says in a disastrous day learning to keep calm always helps.

“All this drama got me into the swing of things, I eventually got composed. However today I was more in control,” she says.

A success in broadcasting and a professional all round media practitioner, Penny Lebyane keeps getting ahead as a dedicated career woman.

“I have the ability to unpack and deliver content in a manner that is relevant, inclusive and accessible to viewers.

“Sunrise will be my opportunity to learn, grow and add value as a creative communicator and broadcaster,” says Lebyane.

She makes clear that being a presenter on Sunrise does not make her an ENCA news anchor.

“I have not made a shift to serious news. We at sunrise are a 360 degrees type of show, I get to do interviews around topical stories.

“It’s not the same as ENCA, we do conversations around current affairs, lifestyle and entertainment. It’s breakfast television,” she says.
