Khanyile's show to be beamed in 140 countries

SOUTH African actor, poet and musician Ndoni Khanyile is set to shine on the global arena with her new show on Al Jazeera.

Khanyile co-presents Innovative Africa with Zimbabwean radio personality Tapfuma Makina. The show, focusing on innovation and technology, is beamed in over 140 countries.

It profiles individuals, companies and organisations with their innovations that benefit their communities.

The six-part series travels across Africa meeting entrepreneurs and innovators.

Khanyile says as part of the show she has visited projects like the World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi, where they're sequencing the genomes of traditional African food crops.

"We also focus on the subjects of education, agriculture and food security, looking at different countries," she says.

Khanyile regards her new venture as a step that will see her growing fast. The presenter says since she completed her drama studies, she has been able to explore music, poetry, acting, writing, radio and presenting.

Khanyile says she feels fortunate to have been able to explore all her talents in the past years.

"It is a very big thing opportunity.

"There is a lot of growing that happens for me when I do different things, but I need those opportunities to land on my lap."

Khanyile is a familiar face, especially as she hosted eNCA's technology show Tech Report in 2011.

She also starred in the award-winning SABC1 mini-series When We Were Black and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, alongside John Kani.

She studied theatre and performance at the University of Cape Town before receiving a master's degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia University.
